Oppong Nkrumah Slams 24-Hour Economy Policy, Says No Government Agency Using "1-3-3" After GH¢650 Billion Appropriation

Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi, has criticised the government’s 24-Hour Economy policy, saying that almost two years into office and after appropriating about GH¢650 billion, no government agency is operating the proposed "1-3-3" shift system.

Contributing in Parliament on the Committee on Economy and Development Report on the 24-hour Economy Policy Document, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah said the lack of implementation is the "biggest testimony" that the programme is not delivering on what was promised.

"This government is almost two years in office. And in these two years they have appropriated about six hundred and fifty billion Ghana cedis. That's what this house has appropriated for government to work with," he said.

"Almost two years on you cannot find one government agency that is applying one three. For all the stories that we were told, for all the analogies that were given... at the end of the day it is not delivering on what it was promised."

The Ofoase Ayirebi MP noted that according to recent policy documents, the focus has now shifted to two things: the establishment of a "24-Hour Economy Market" and a list of incentives to encourage the private sector to adopt the 1-3-3 shift system.
