Premix fuel supply hit as tanker drivers strike over bad road

The supply of premix fuel has been disrupted following a sit-down strike by petroleum tanker drivers, the National Premix Fuel Secretariat has announced.

Members of the Ghana National Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union began the strike on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, to protest the deteriorating condition of the 7.2-kilometre Valco Roundabout–Kpone Junction road in Tema.

According to the drivers, the deplorable state of the road poses serious safety risks as they transport highly inflammable petroleum products.

In a notice dated September 3, 2026, the Secretariat said the industrial action has affected the distribution chain for premix fuel.

“The ongoing strike by the Ghana National Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union has temporarily affected the supply of premix fuel,” the statement noted.

The Secretariat said steps are being taken to resolve the impasse and expressed optimism that the strike would be called off soon.

It apologised to fishers, OMCs and other stakeholders who depend on premix for their operations, for the inconvenience caused and assured of its commitment to ensuring adequate and reliable supply.

It has urged stakeholders to remain patient while engagement continues to address the drivers’ concerns.
