President John Dramani Mahama will on Thursday, August 27, 2026, cut the sod for the construction of a multi-storey car park and airport hotel complex at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra.
The project will comprise a seven-storey car park with over 2,000 parking bays, two hotels, a pedestrian walkway linking the facility to the terminal building, a shopping mall with a food court, retail outlets and rentable office spaces.
It will also feature a sky lounge for entertainment and an observation deck for viewing aircraft landings and take-offs.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
The Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, had earlier informed Parliament's Committee on Roads and Transportation that the current Terminal 3 car park, with capacity for only 513 vehicles, is inadequate for the growing passenger traffic.
She disclosed that the contractor for the new project has already started mobilizing to site.
The facility, expected to be completed within 24 months, will be financed through the Airport Infrastructure Development Charge – a levy on departing passengers that took effect in April 2026.
