The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced that electricity and water tariffs will remain unchanged for the fourth quarter of 2026.
According to the Commission, the existing tariffs for the third quarter will continue to apply in the fourth quarter, effective October 1, 2026. This represents a 0% adjustment.
The decision was contained in the Commission's 2026 Fourth Quarter Tariff Review Decision for Electricity and Water released on September 24, 2026.
The PURC said the quarterly reviews are undertaken in line with its mandate to review tariffs on a quarterly basis to reflect developments within the quarter and to maintain the real value of tariffs to enable utility service providers to remain financially viable while considering the wellbeing of consumers.
For the review, the Commission said it considered four key operational factors:
. Exchange Rate:* The Commission applied a Weighted Average Ghana Cedi to US Dollar exchange rate of GHS11.5646 to US$1.0000 for the Fourth Quarter, which indicates a 3.04% depreciation of the Cedi from the Third Quarter rate of GHS11.2228 to US$1.0000.
. Inflation Rate:* It applied an average annual inflation rate of 4.97% for the Fourth Quarter, indicating an upward review of 44.89% from the previous quarter's rate of 3.43%.
. Price of Natural Gas:* The Commission applied a Weighted Average Cost of Gas (WACOG) price of USD7.8379/MMBtu, indicating a downward adjustment of 1.67% from the previous quarter's rate of USD7.9708/MMBtu.
. Electricity Generation Mix:* Projected generation from hydro sources increased by approximately 16.03% from 20.90% in the Third Quarter to 24.25% in the Fourth Quarter, while projected generation from thermal sources declined by approximately 4.24% from 79.10% to 75.75% in the Fourth Quarter.
