The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) says its request for National Security intervention led to the ongoing removal of unauthorised occupants from the beachfront adjoining the Labadi Beach Hotel and La Palm Royal Beach Hotel.
In a statement dated October 2, 2026, SSNIT said it sought the urgent intervention of the National Security Council Secretariat to address what it described as persistent unlawful occupation, encroachment and unauthorised activities directly in front of the two hotels.
According to SSNIT, both hotel properties form part of its investment portfolio and constitute significant national hospitality and tourism assets.
The Trust said it has a fiduciary responsibility to safeguard the investments, preserve their value and ensure they continue to generate sustainable returns for contributors and pensioners under the Basic National Social Security Scheme, stressing that “these assets belong to the workers and pensioners of Ghana.”
SSNIT listed eight risks posed by the continued encroachment, including threats to the safety and security of guests and staff, unauthorised access to sensitive areas, exposure to fire, sanitation and public health hazards, deterioration of beachfront and service standards, degradation of the coastal ecosystem, reputational damage to the hotels and Ghana’s tourism industry, disruption of operations and patronage, and the risk of further expansion making recovery of the lands more difficult and costly.
“In view of the foregoing, SSNIT requested support from National Security to protect the assets belonging to Ghanaian workers,” the statement said.
It added that the beaches will be cleaned and restored to a safe and desirable state and will remain open to the public.
The statement was issued by the Board of Trustees of SSNIT.
