Management and staff of Saint Elizabeth Catholic Hospital in Hwidiem, Ahafo Region, have made a public appeal for support to expand and equip their emergency unit. This call was made during a march to launch this year’s Emergency Medicine Day celebration. Hospital Manager Sister Georgina Quayson highlighted the inadequacy of the current emergency ward, which has only an eight-bed capacity and lacks essential medical equipment. She emphasized that the hospital, serving as a referral center, urgently needs to enhance its emergency services to accommodate the increasing number of patients. Sister Quayson urged individuals, corporate entities, and NGOs to assist in this endeavor, stating that the hospital does not want to experience the 'No Bed Syndrome.' Nurse Manager Gladys Bediako and Emergency Unit In-Charge Nsiah Kwaku Stephen echoed the need for expansion, citing that the facility handles a high volume of emergency cases daily. They noted that the limited space sometimes forces healthcare workers to treat patients on the floor, highlighting the critical need for improved infrastructure and resources to provide adequate care.
