Barely three days to a planned demolition exercise along the Suame Roundabout - Abrepo Junction road, construction of new stalls has commenced in the area earmarked for the Suame Interchange project.
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) had directed occupants along the stretch to vacate the area ahead of the demolition exercise scheduled for *October 8*.
However, checks by Channel One News indicate that work on foundations for new stalls began on Sunday, with contractors spotted at the site.
Speaking to journalists on the matter, the Public Relations Officer for the Assembly, *Henrietta Afia Konadu Aboagye*, said the Mayor has instructed the developer to halt construction until the buffer zone is properly demarcated.
In a related development, she disclosed that earlier this year, the Chief Executive toured school compounds within the metropolis following reports from teachers and headteachers about encroachment affecting teaching and learning.
According to her, the tour revealed mechanics, food vendors and private garages operating on school lands.
She said management has since reported to the General Assembly to secure the school lands and ensure all encroachers are evicted to protect teaching and learning.
