The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Ghana Road Transport Co-ordinating Council (GRTCC)* say commercial transport fares will remain unchanged across all routes for now.
In a joint press release dated August 5, 2026, the two unions thanked the government for the recent GH₵2.00 per litre reduction in the regulatory margin on diesel, which took effect on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 for a period of one month.
*“Following consultations with our national executives and stakeholders, we wish to inform the general public that transport fares will remain unchanged across all routes until further notice,”* the statement said.
The leadership, signed by *Mr. Godfred Abulbire, General Secretary of GPRTU*, and *Mr. Emmanuel Ohene Yeboah, General Secretary of GRTCC*, said they had earlier engaged the Transport Minister to push for relief for drivers.
They welcomed the government’s intervention and urged that the current window be extended beyond one month if oil prices continue to rise.
The unions also directed drivers, station masters and branch executives to strictly adhere to the approved fare structure.
*“No additional charges outside the official fare table will be permitted. Any commuter required to pay above the approved fare should report the matter immediately to the nearest union office for prompt redress.”*
The release was copied to the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, the National Petroleum Authority, and all Regional Coordinating Directors.
