Transport operators seek review of public transport fares

The leadership of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) has submitted a request to the Ministry of Transport for a review of public transport fares.

This was contained in a joint press release dated September 3, 2026, and signed by Mr. Godfred Abulbire, General Secretary of the GPRTU of TUC, Ghana, and Mr. Emmanuel Ohene Yeboah, General Secretary of the GRTCC.

According to the release, the request is in line with the Administrative Instrument governing the review of transport fares.

The leadership explained that the process forms part of the established consultative framework for determining and reviewing public transport fares, taking into account various inputs that go into the operations of commercial road transport services.

The two bodies have assured the general public that engagement will soon commence with the Ministry of Transport and the outcome will be communicated in due course.

They have therefore urged all drivers, station masters, transport owners, and the general public to remain calm and await the outcome of the process.
