Member of Parliament for Upper West Akim, Emmanuel Drah, says tackling youth unemployment remains a top priority in his development agenda for the constituency.
Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the MP said efforts are already yielding results, with several young people in the constituency securing recruitment into various national security agencies through his intervention.
According to him, job creation is key to transforming Upper West Akim into a vibrant industrial and economic hub and reversing years of underdevelopment.
"The constituency has lagged behind in several areas, but I am confident we will reverse the trend and create much-needed job opportunities for the youth," he told host Kwabena Agyapong.
Mr. Drah noted that the drive to create jobs is being supported by ongoing development projects. He disclosed that nine infrastructure projects are currently ongoing under his personal sponsorship, with over 20 additional government-sponsored projects across the constituency.
He said the projects, which include classroom blocks for schools such as the Anglican JHS at Amaakrom, Methodist Primary and Adam SDA School, are expected to open up opportunities for local labour and skills.
The first-time legislator also linked local progress to the performance of the national economy, arguing that a stable economy makes it possible to fund local interventions.
While admitting that not every community has felt the impact yet, Mr. Drah assured constituents that development and job opportunities will eventually reach every corner of Upper West Akim.
"Not everybody has benefited from these gains; however, I want to assure them that development will reach every corner of the constituency," he stressed.
