The Member of Parliament for Walewale Constituency, Hon. Dr. Abdul Kabiru Tiah Mahama, has participated in the 21st edition of the World Telecommunication/ICT Indicators Symposium (WTIS-26) held in Geneva, Switzerland.
The symposium, which took place from 7th to 11th September 2026, brought together global experts and policymakers to deliberate on key ICT indicators.
Hon. Dr. Mahama attended the event as a member of the Information and Communication Committee and part of Ghana’s parliamentary delegation.
According to the MP, the symposium offered participants the opportunity to discuss the findings of the Expert Group on Telecommunication/ICT Indicators (EGTI) as well as the Expert Group on ICT Household Indicators (EGH).
He noted that a key revelation from the discussions was how national averages often mask poor ICT indicators in deprived areas of most countries.
Hon. Dr. Mahama also emphasized the need for stakeholders to pay attention to the transparency, accuracy, credibility, reliability and source of data, especially with the advent of artificial intelligence.
He cautioned that absolute reliance on platforms such as ChatGPT, Google AI and others comes at the cost of data credibility, a point he said should be a matter of reflection for all users of digital information.
