The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ghana Education Service (GES) to recruit and deploy 6,000 young people as Community Teaching Assistants by November 2026.
The Chief Executive Officer of YEA, Malik Basintale, disclosed this at the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, October 21.
According to him, the initiative is designed to provide additional teaching support to basic schools, especially in hard-to-reach communities.
He explained that under the Community Teaching Assistant Model, qualified young people would be engaged to support teaching staff while gaining valuable classroom experience, stressing that the programme is not meant to replace professional teachers.
"I'm happy to report that, as of September, an MoU has been successfully signed with the Ghana Education Service for the onboarding of 6,000 beneficiaries, whom we hope to recruit and deploy by November this year," Mr. Basintale said.
He noted that the programme forms part of YEA's broader community-based interventions aimed at creating jobs for the youth while addressing specific development needs at the local level.
Mr. Basintale added that the interventions are intended to help beneficiaries acquire relevant work experience and earn incomes while offering essential services to their communities.
