Former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo has denied claims she was armed or fired a weapon during a violent clash at her brother’s Kwabenya property on June 21.
“I don’t own a gun, I didn’t shoot a gun and I will never shoot a gun,” Adwoa Safo told journalists while receiving treatment after the incident.
The confrontation occurred at the residence of her younger brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo, also known as Akofena. The property is tied to an ongoing leadership dispute within the Kristo Asafo Mission following the death of its founder, Apostle Professor Kwadwo Safo.
The former Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister said she went to the premises alone, without security, and only in her capacity as a family member. “This was a private family issue, not a confrontation,” she stated.
Adwoa Safo rejected reports that she rammed her vehicle into the property’s gate before the shooting. She argued that her car showed no collision damage beyond marks linked to gunfire.
She also pushed back on what she called “false narratives” suggesting she was armed during the incident.
*Conflicting Accounts*
Her denial follows a statement from the Kristo Asafo Mission dismissing claims that she was shot. The church maintained no gunfire was aimed at her. Instead, it alleged she drove into the entrance gates after a church event, damaging the facility and putting worshippers at risk.
According to the church, security personnel had to step in to stop the situation from worsening. It asked the public to wait for verified findings as investigations continue.
*Police Action*
The Ghana Police Service has arrested Israel Safo and two others to assist with the probe. Officers say they recovered firearms, ammunition, and loaded magazines during a search of the premises.
The suspects face charges including possession and use of offensive weapons and causing unlawful damage. They have all been granted bail by the court.
The case is set to resume as police investigate both the shooting and the underlying succession battle within the Kristo Asafo Mission.
