Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has called for deeper economic integration among nations as a pathway to shared prosperity, stressing that countries stand to gain significantly through stronger regional and inter-regional partnerships.
Delivering a keynote address at the 4th Marrakesh Parliamentary Economic Forum in Morocco, he noted that Ghana remains committed to promoting economic diplomacy and policies that facilitate trade, investment and cooperation across borders.
The Speaker highlighted Ghana's strategic position as a gateway to West Africa, citing the country's political stability, expanding transport infrastructure, modern port facilities and industrialisation agenda as key advantages for boosting trade and economic growth.
He added that Ghana's transition to a 24-hour economy is expected to enhance productivity, trade facilitation and global competitiveness.
Rt. Hon. Bagbin further underscored the importance of integrating people alongside economies, arguing that the movement of goods and services must be matched by the free movement of people.
He commended Morocco, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, the Parliamentary Network of the World Bank and IMF, and other partners for fostering economic collaboration among Africa, Europe and the Gulf States, while urging governments to uphold transparency, accountability and sound economic policies to drive sustainable development and prosperity.
