Government has placed 12 communities in the Nkwanta South Municipality under curfew following a deadly attack in Odomi that killed three people and left nine others with gunshot wounds.
The curfew was announced by Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, acting on advice from the National Security Council. It was imposed through an Executive Instrument and took effect today, Friday, June 19, 2026.
*5PM to 6AM Restriction*
Residents in the affected areas must stay indoors from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. daily until further notice.
The communities covered are Keri, Abrewanko, Abrewanko Junction, Nyambo, Nyambo Junction, Shari, Kromase, Power, Nyakoma, Odomi, Bonakye, and Nkwanta.
*Total Ban on Weapons*
Authorities have also announced a total ban on the possession and carrying of arms, ammunition, and other offensive weapons in the 12 communities.
Security agencies say anyone found with such items will be arrested and prosecuted.
*Appeal for Calm*
In a statement, government urged chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and residents to exercise restraint and use peaceful means to resolve differences.
The Interior Ministry said the restrictions are meant to restore calm and maintain security as efforts continue to address tensions in the municipality.
*Thursday Attack Triggered Action*
The measures follow an attack in Odomi on Thursday, June 18, that heightened tensions across Nkwanta South.
Three people were killed in the incident and nine others were injured. The violence prompted an immediate response from government.
Security personnel have been deployed to enforce the curfew and weapons ban while investigations continue.
