Italian authorities have canceled upcoming concerts by Kanye West and Travis Scott, citing public order and security concerns. The decision was announced by Prefect Salvatore Angieri, following a request from the local Jewish community to cancel West's performance. The community's leader, Nicoletta Uzzielli, advocated for a replacement show that would promote music as a unifying force. West, now known as Ye, has faced backlash for his antisemitic comments, which have previously led to his ban from entering the UK. The concerts were scheduled for July 17 and 18 in Reggio Emilia, and concerns about potential counter-demonstrations and the large crowds expected at the events influenced the decision. Scott's past controversies, including the tragic deaths of ten individuals during his Astroworld festival in 2021, also contributed to the authorities' apprehensions. This cancellation follows the recent withdrawal of West from the Wireless Festival in London due to similar security issues. The situation highlights ongoing tensions surrounding West's controversial statements and the implications for public safety at large events.
