The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, *Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah*, has confirmed the government’s decision to revoke Adamus Resources’ mining lease, paving the way for the Minerals Commission to take over operations at the mine.
Speaking during a working visit to the Adamus Mine at Salman in the Ellembelle District, the Minister said a Ministerial Review Committee set up to consider Adamus’ appeal had upheld most of the breaches earlier identified by the Minerals Commission.
According to him, the review was to ensure the company’s concerns were fairly heard before a final decision was made. The committee’s report, he added, supported the original recommendation to revoke the lease due to serious violations of the Mining Act and mining regulations.
“*The Minister agreed with them; there was a petition, and we formed the ministerial review committee. That work has come to an end. As a Minister, I have concluded to uphold the revocation. What that means is that the Minerals Commission should, with immediate effect, take administrative control of this Mine*,” Mr. Buah stated.
The revocation forms part of government’s wider drive to ensure that Ghana’s mineral resources are managed in the national interest and benefit host communities.
The Lands Minister noted that government is now exploring options to revitalize the Adamus Mine to restore production, protect jobs, and create new economic opportunities for residents of the Eastern Nzema Traditional Area and beyond.
He was accompanied by officials of the Minerals Commission and other stakeholders to assess the current state of the mine and agree on next steps for its management.
