The Minerals Commission has been directed to take immediate administrative control of the Adamus Mine at Salman following government’s decision to uphold the revocation of Adamus Resources’ mining lease.
The directive was issued by the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, *Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah*, during a visit to the mine over the weekend.
The decision comes after a Ministerial Review Committee concluded its work on appeals submitted by Adamus Resources. According to the Minister, the committee looked into the company’s concerns and confirmed most of the breaches earlier flagged in the Minerals Commission’s assessment.
Based on those findings, Mr. Buah said he had upheld the earlier revocation of the lease due to what he described as “great violations” of the Mining Act and mining regulations.
“*That work has come to an end. As a Minister, I have concluded to uphold the revocation. What that means is that the Minerals Commission should, with immediate effect, take administrative control of this Mine*,” he stated.
Government initially revoked Adamus Resources’ lease over alleged breaches of its operating terms. The review process, the Minister explained, was to ensure the company was given a fair hearing before a final decision.
The takeover is part of broader efforts to ensure Ghana’s mineral resources are managed in the national interest and benefit host communities. Government says it will now work with the Minerals Commission to explore options for restarting operations at the mine to protect jobs and livelihoods in the Eastern Nzema Traditional Area.
