The National Labour Commission has directed the Komfo Anokye Doctors’ Association to call off its indefinite strike immediately, declaring the industrial action illegal under the Labour Act.
In a summons dated June 6, 2026, and addressed to the KADA Chairman, the Commission said it had taken note of media reports of an indefinite strike by the Association effective June 6. The NLC stated that KADA communicated the strike in a letter dated June 5, 2026, to the KATH Board Chairman, citing displeasure with operational and administrative decisions.
According to the NLC, the strike notice was improperly served and does not comply with the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651). Acting under Section 139(d) of the Act, the Commission directed KADA to end the strike immediately, saying the action contravenes Sections 162 and 163.
The Commission has summoned both parties to appear before it on *Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at 2pm* for a hearing on the issues in dispute.
The directive was signed by Dr. Bernice A. Welbeck, Acting Executive Secretary of the NLC. Copies were sent to the Health Minister, Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, President of the Ghana Medical Association, Ashanti Divisional Chairman of the GMA, Medical Director of KATH, and the Director of Administration at KATH. The Chief of Staff and Secretary to the President were also copied.
KADA’s strike was declared following recent tensions at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital over administrative decisions, including the suspension of the hospital’s CEO.
