The Ministry of Food and Agriculture has distributed 1.7 million birds across nine regions under the Nkɔkɔ Nkitinkiti backyard poultry initiative, Deputy Minister Hon. John Setor Dumelo has disclosed.
Providing an update in Parliament on Wednesday, Dumelo said the distribution targets food security at the community level with a strong focus on women and youth.
He stated that, so far one point seven million beds have been distributed across the country. Ashanti, Ahafo, Bono, Bono East, Greater Accra, Western North, Eastern, Central, and Volta have all been served.
On maize and soya for poultry feed, the Deputy Minister said processing factories are already engaging suppliers to produce and deliver feed to beneficiaries.
“Mister Speaker to the next question about the maize and soya we are currently most of the processing factories are currently working with the suppliers of the feed to be able to buy from them so that they can produce the feed and hence hand it over to the beneficiaries,” he told the House.
*Background*
Nkɔkɔ Nkitinkiti is one of three major interventions under government’s Poultry Industry Revitalization Program. The backyard poultry initiative targets the production of an additional 3 million birds nationwide, prioritizing vulnerable groups.
It was formally launched on November 12, 2025. The other two interventions are the Poultry Farm-to-Table Project for 50 commercial anchor farmers and the Poultry Intensification Program under FSRP supporting 500 small and medium-scale farmers.
