President John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) in Ghana held total assets worth GH¢407.85 billion as of the end of December 2025.
He made this known on Thursday, September 10, when he addressed the SIGA Governing Boards and CEOs Conference 2026.
According to the President, despite the huge asset base, SOEs also accumulated liabilities of about GH¢282 billion within the same period.
He further revealed that majority-owned joint venture companies held assets of GH¢96.69 billion with liabilities of GH¢82.7 billion.
For other state entities, President Mahama said they held assets of approximately GH¢341.6 billion, but their liabilities were much higher, standing at GH¢382.75 billion – meaning their liabilities exceeded their assets by over GH¢41 billion.
He noted that when combined with their aggregate deficit of GH¢10.48 billion, the situation demands urgent attention.
“This means their liabilities therefore exceeded their assets by more than GH¢41 billion. Combined with their aggregate deficit of GH¢10.48 billion, this demands urgent attention from the boards of these enterprises, from the sector ministries, SIGA and the Ministry of Finance,” President Mahama said.
