Takoradi MP Urges GETFund to Focus on Funding, Leave Scholarship Administration to Secretariat

Hon. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, Member of Parliament for Takoradi, has called on GETFund to concentrate on funding feeding grants and scholarships, while leaving the administration of scholarships to the Scholarship Secretariat to avoid duplication of roles.

The Takoradi MP made the call in Parliament while contributing to the debate on the Report of the Public Accounts Committee on the Follow-up Report of the Auditor-General. The report covered three key audits: _Regulating Small-Scale Mining for a Sustainable Environment_, _Sustainability of Sports Stadia in Ghana_, and _Administration of Scholarships by GETFund_.

According to Hon. Darko-Mensah, the current overlap between GETFund and the Scholarship Secretariat in administering scholarships is inefficient and creates confusion.

He argued that GETFund has adequate resources to support students through funding, but the actual processing and management of awards should remain with the Scholarship Secretariat, which has the mandate to do so.

"GETFund should focus on funding feeding grants and scholarships, and leave the administration to the Scholarship Secretariat. This will help us avoid the duplication and ensure better accountability," he said.

The MP was speaking during Parliament’s consideration of the Public Accounts Committee report, which seeks to address findings and recommendations from the Auditor-General’s follow-up audits.
