WAEC Cancels Results Of Over 8,000 Candidates, Withholds 1,227 Others Over Exam Malpractices

The West African Examinations Council has cancelled and withheld the results of over 9,500 candidates who sat for the 2026 WASSCE for School Candidates over various examination irregularities.

This was contained in a press release dated September 4, 2026, announcing the release of provisional results for the examination.

According to WAEC, following investigations into cases of irregularities reported during the conduct of the exams, the 42nd Meeting of the Ghana Examinations Committee held on Friday, August 7, 2026 approved sanctions.

A total of 7,434 candidates had their subject results cancelled for bringing foreign materials such as prepared notes, textbooks and printed materials into the examination halls.

Another 861 candidates had their entire results cancelled for being in possession of mobile phones in the examination halls.

In addition, the subject results of 957 candidates and the entire results of 270 candidates have been withheld for various suspected offences - bringing the total number of withheld results to 1,227.

WAEC also disclosed that some subject results of candidates from 169 schools have been withheld for alleged collusion. These cases are still under investigation and the fate of the candidates - whether their results will be released or cancelled - will be decided by October 30, 2026.

The Council has directed candidates whose results have been cancelled or withheld to visit https://irreg.waecgh.org and click on the withheld/cancelled button to check the reasons and the next line of action.

Meanwhile, WAEC has released provisional results for the 2026 WASSCE. A total of 512,862 candidates from 1,022 schools entered for the examination, an 11.07% increase over 2025. Results have been hosted online at http://www.waecgh.org and login details will be made available to heads of schools.

The Council cautioned candidates and the public to be wary of fraudsters who claim they can upgrade results for a fee, stressing that results are secured and verifiable via its QR code system.
