President John Dramani Mahama has hailed the growth of Zonda Tec Ghana Limited as a clear example of Ghanaian business success.
According to the President, the company's journey from a simple vehicle distribution business to a full-scale automotive assembly operation is worth celebrating.
President Mahama made the remarks on Tuesday, September 15, when he commissioned the third phase of the Zonda Tec Ghana Assembly Plant.
He said the commissioning is a major step forward for Ghana's industrialization agenda and proof that local manufacturing can thrive.
The President noted that Ghana can only achieve lasting prosperity if it produces more of what it consumes and exports more of what it manufactures locally.
He said investments like that of Zonda Tec show investor confidence in the Ghanaian economy and in the talent of the Ghanaian people. Such investments, he added, are key to creating sustainable jobs for Ghanaians today and in the future.
"Zonda Tec’s growth is itself a remarkable Ghanaian success story. From modest beginnings, Madam Yang Yang began as a vehicle distributor in the year 2010. The company she established has steadily transformed itself into Ghana’s leading assembler of heavy-duty vehicles, SUVs and small cars," President Mahama stated.
The President said the company's expansion aligns with the long-held vision of Ghana's first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, who believed political independence must be anchored on economic and industrial independence.
He commended Zonda Tec for its determination, strategic partnerships and consistent investment, which have grown the company from assembling heavy-duty trucks to assembling SUVs, passenger cars and light trucks from top Chinese brands.
President Mahama said the progress has made Zonda Tec one of the leading modern vehicle assembly plants in the West African sub-region.
